Sale 535: Americana-Asian-American-Travel

Over 500 lots of rare, scholarly, unusual, and historically significant material relating to the Americas, the World, Asia and Asian Americans, and a flamboyant Mayor of San Francisco and Governor of California. Included is the working library of Doyce B. Nunis, Jr., educator, author, historian, longtime professor at the University of Southern California and editor of the Quarterly of the Historical Society of Southern California. Also present in the auction are rare historical artifacts passed down through the family of James “Sunny Jim” Rolph, Jr., longtime mayor of San Francisco followed by a short stint of governor of California before his death, with much relating to the Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which was held during his tenure as mayor. In addition, there are sections on Asia and Asian Americans, travel and exploration with much on polar activities, and an important collection on Greenland formed by scientist Don Laursen, most of it in the original Danish.
