Couture

This auction offers over a century of important vintage dresses, suits and ensembles by the some of the world’s most famed couturiers, as well as a rich assortment of accessories, costume jewelry and textiles. Highlights include couture from the Collection of the Marquesa de San Damian, featuring designs by Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Rodriguez, Dior, Valentino, Pucci, Desses and Givenchy. From the estate of fashion designer Pauline Trigere is her personal collection of designs, featuring the famed “Trigere” coat. From other collections are a 1905 Liberty & Co. Aesthetic coat, an early 1900s Moroccan aba, a selection of designs by Paul Poiret, a late 1920s black lace dress by Chanel, a rare Norell 1967 coat covered with silk dahlias, a 1970s Ossie Clark floral print chiffon dress, Jean Paul Gautier ‘Bravehearts’ skirts for men, and 'Musique de Nuit', the 1956 smoke silk faille gown from Dior, probably by Yves Sant Laurent, and creations by Galanos, Sant’ Angelo, Westwood, Courreges, Ken Scott, and LaCroix, among many others. Featured in the accessories are leather and crododile handbags by Hermes, Chanel and Gucci; antique beaded bags; minaudieres by Judith Lieber; hats by Balenciaga and Givenchy; shoes by Beth Levine and Herbert Levine; and cases and trunks by Louis Vuitton. Highlights of the costume jewelry include the estate of Kathleen Winsor, author of the best-selling novel Forever Amber. The Winsor collection features six rare pieces by de Lillo. Costume jewelry from other collections offers pieces by Iradj Moini, Hobe, Schiaparelli, Dior, Coppola e Toppo, and others. Fashion memorabilia includes sketches by Antonio and Sant’ Angelo, a 1968 Schiaparelli calendar, a group of Beatonabilia, and Diana Vreeland memorabilia. Textiles feature antique French toile, paisley shawls, laces, linens and the McLean Collection of Egyptian tapestries.
