JO ANNE CHRISTIAN, JEWELRY & HANDBAGS

More than 600 lots including a selection of vintage handbags with Vuitton, Chanel, Dior and others. A huge selection of jewelry from the estate of Jo Anne Christian (Texas, 1936-2015), a lifelong collector of friends, paintings, jewelry, books and other beautiful things, was known for her love of color and her support for the arts. As one of the Three J's--the three women who founded Austin's Long Center for the Performing Arts--Mrs. Christian made an indelible mark on Texas' Capital City. Jo Anne Christian was the widow of George E. Christian Jr. (Texas, 1927-2002), press secretary to President Lyndon Baines Johnson. She was an attorney, an avid historian, a voracious reader and an inveterate theatergoer. Many of the items from her collection, especially some notable pieces of jewelry and clothing, date from the couple's time in Washington in the 1960s.*
