Pure Nature: Animal- and flower images

In the rising awareness of the plant and animal life in a world dominated by humans, our artist positions stand for an aesthetic fight. Begun with the means that the Old Masters had, Giovanni Stanchi (1608-1673) combines mainly subjects of hunting still life with opulent bouquets and fruit. The appropriation of the habitat of the animals by humans is already reached in Eugne Verboeckhoven?s flock of sheep, dated 1866. Further, the auction presents abstracted landscape and animal interpretations by Heinrich Nauen, Andy Warhol and Alex Katz. Joana Vasconcelo?s ceramic of a bull?s torso points at the controversial Spanish-Portuguese tradition of bull fighting. Thomas Grnfeld reaches the tip of the artificial depiction of animals with his assembled taxidermies, in this case a foal dog.
