The March 23 auction will offer Coins, Medals and Bank Notes from the Estate of Samuel Mills Damon of Honolulu, Hawaii. In a safe deposit vault for many decades, the Damon Collection features numerous United States, Hawaiian and World rarities and previously unrecorded items. This important collection was assembled by prominent banker Samuel Mills Damon (1845-1924) at a time when Hawaii was one of the globe’s busiest ports of call. The Collection includes almost 700 lots with a wide range of values, offering treasures for both the seasoned buyer and the new collector. United States coins includesr examples dating from 1783 through 1892 (Lots 2461-2653) and are highlighted by the prize of the Damon Collection -- a magnificent 14-piece proof set from 1876, our nation’s Centennial year (Lot 2617). Also noteworthy is a fine selection of Private and Territorial gold. The auction features an unprecedented offering of Hawaiian material (Lots 2654-2695) highlighted by an important 1880 Kingdom of Hawaii $10 bill, Serial Number 1 (Lot 2695), as well as a remarkable group of eight 1883 silver dollars (Lots 2663-2670), various tokens, scrip and two 1850 Hawaiian Agricultural Society medals (Lots 2680-2681). The foreign section of the Damon Collection includes silver and gold pieces from Eastern and Western Europe, Great Britain and Colonies, Scandinavia, Central and South America, and Asia (Lots 2001-2393). The medals comprise over 200 items dating from the late 1600s through the late 1800s representing France, Germany, the Papal States, Austria, Great Britain, Russia, the United States and other countries (Lots 2394-2460).
