Asian Works of Art

The April 4 sale will feature Asian Works of Art showcasing the arts of China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia. Offerings include pottery and porcelain, jade, scholar’s objects, bronzes, screens and paintings. Highlighting the sale is a 19th century Chinese Daizhai Imperial vase (lot 3184). Also featured is a private collection of blue and white porcelain articles, including two large brush pots from the Kangxi Period and a ‘kraak porcelain’ covered bowl from the Wanli Period. The selection of Chinese sculptures offers several images of Bodhisattva, including a Wei style stone Bodhisattva and a painted wood figure from the Ming Dynasty. Certain to attract interest is a group of seven Chinese ivory plaques dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. Highlighting the Chinese scrolls is an example by Wu Xizai (1799-1870) entitled Lichee, inscribed with a poem and a signed painting by Langzhi. Jade offerings include a group of four Chinese Jadeite pendants of various shapes. From Japan is a selection of exquisite cloisonne from the Meiji Period. Also from Japan is a lacquered tray worked in sliver and gold on a black ground with two rabbits gazing at the moon.
