(Dwight D. Eisenhower). 8" x 5" original self-portrait (4" x 4"), head and shoulders, pencil sketch drawn by Eisenhower. There are shorthand notes, also in pencil to the right of the sketch. This sketch was in the possession of Mary Jane McCaffree who served as Mrs. Eisenhower's Chief of Staff from 1953 until 1961. McCaffree has included her personal calling card upon which she writes: "This self portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower has been in my possession since our White House days." On the reverse of the card she has translated her shorthand notes which she indicates were dictated by Mrs. Eisenhower, "…I shall look forward to the violets…." The sketch has been professionally encapsulated.
