Seven figural studies featured in Gilkerson's book An Arctic Whaling Sketchbook (Fairhaven, Massachusetts, 1983). Includes "Whaleman Trekking Over Ice" and "Eskimo Wind Face", among other untitled works. Most initialed in lower corners "WG". One work with a Christmas note from the artist on the reverse. Includes a master copy of the book's text edited by Gilkerson himself, along with a letter from his publisher, the Stinehour Press in Lunenburg, Vermont.
Pencils on paper, from 3.5" x 5.5" to 9.5" x 8.75" sight. Framed from 9.75" x 11" to 15.5" x 14.5".
