Doubleday Atlas of the World with WWI Maps 1918

Lot 8364 Details

Description
Doubleday, Page & Co's Geographical Manual and New Atlas. "Maps of to-day and to-morrow. New maps will replace old after the Great War" by C. O. Sylvester Mawson, (Christopher Orlando Sylvester), published by Doubleday, Page & Company, 1918, copyright 1917. The maps are by Hammond.

This is a later printing with all initial maps of the first printing: physical maps, and maps of various parts of the world showing racial distribution, language, rainfall, vegetation, production, population and transportation; various indexes including the U.S. Index, and a General Index. Especially interesting are the U.S. States maps showing the red auto routes. Such car route maps were a novelty in the 1910s.

This atlas contains new upfront added maps with indexes of the frontline and frontier of the WWI, and the additional maps of the post-WWI world with all the new states carved out of the old empires, it also shows reduced Germany, Austria, and Turkey. There is an interesting example of Poland-- one map shows Poland the part of Russia, another map shows independent Poland incorporating Silesia and West Prussia.

Rates vary per country, we will adjust shipping costs with the invoice.
