A dramatic carved wooden mask accented with red mineral pigment and decorated with strong linear designs. The "nsembu" mask is used exclusively by members of the Nkunda Secret Society for the purposes of adult initiation. They also use the mask for divination under the effects of hallucinogens such as Iboga. The mask itself represents the diviner’s spirit. Kumu peoples, DRC/ Congo, central Africa. A metal display stand can be included for an additional $40.00. Provenance: Ex Jean Pierre Hallet, CA, Author and Adventurer.
