Description
BRASS WILD & WESSEL SINGLE-ARM KEROSENE HARVARD STUDENT LAMP, electrified, embossed font with paneling under scroll and figural Mephistopheles ornamentation, air-draft cup shaft impressed "PATENT WILD & WESSEL BERLIN", supported by a central shaft and weighted circular foot, underside impressed "W & W / 1373", adjustable shade ring. Fitted with an electrified burner, two part Illuminator shade with colorless base and opaque white top, base embossed "ILLUMINATOR A. XL." with patent dates. Second half 19th century. 21 1/2" HOA, 5 3/4" D base. Shade 7" H, 2" D fitter.
Very good overall condition, expected minor wear to finish, tip of air-intake drip cup with a drilled hole. Burner with associated alterations and losses from electrification, shade undamaged with normal rim roughness, shade top with a manufacturing imperfection resulting in some discoloration.
