Description
Western Europe, Spain, Medieval period, ca. 1340 to 1380 CE. A lovely limestone architectural ornament, finely carved in the form of a youthful face with a curly coiffure. The visage has delicate features including a petite protruding nose, lidded eyes, and full pouty lips. The top of his brow is partially covered by a pointed cap, with a floral motif adorning the center. The top of this head is surmounted by a flat tiered platform. The Gothic quarter of Barcelona still boasts many similar stone carvings decorating various walls and edifices. Size: 5.75" W x 7.375" H (14.6 cm x 18.7 cm)
