Description
SERIAL 36589. BARREL 5". CALIBER .45 ACP. According to factory letter, this gun was shipped on July 9, 1913 in standard shipment of 1250 guns to the US Marine Corps Depot in Philadelphia. This example is 100% period correct to include 1st type HP stamped barrel, type 1 rear sight with round edges and U notch with small front, diamond checkered walnut grips, short wide spur checkered hammer, long smooth trigger, flat main spring housing with loop, checkered slide stop & safety with tempered two tone key hole magazine with loop. Left side of frame has Walter G. Penfield inspector stamp. Left side frame stamped UNITED STATES PROPERTY. Left side slide has 1911 patent date with rear pony. Right side slide stamped MODEL OF 1911 U.S.ARMY. This is a smooth clean gun with no cancer and retains about 85% original blue with usual thinning and high edge wear only. Bore is near mint. Grips are excellent. Any Marine Corps shipped gun is scarce and most have little to no finish as they say hard use during the World War but this example is exceptional given rarity and condition. C&R
