Captain David J. Wheeler, Maryland 3d Infantry.

Lot 0007A Details

Description
CDV by J. B. Young, Baltimore. Wheeler was in Company “B” of the Maryland 3d Infantry from 6/18/61 – 10/7/64. He was promoted to Captain on 11/1/63. He wears a Corps Badge. As part of the Army of the Potomac they fought at major battles including Antietem, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. His name is written in very light pencil on the verso. It has been enhanced in the scan to increase visibility. In pen on the verso “Grandpa’s General in the War” is in pen. The CDV is accompanied by a small notebook with various notes related to family affairs. It includes the name of Wheeler’s regiment followed by “General Slocum.” I assume this was written by Wheeler’s grandson and explains the note on the back of the CDV. Possibly there was also a CDV of Slocum, now missing. The CDV has been trimmed to the images.
