Large Felix Brissot French Landscape Oil

Lot 0005 Details

Description
Large Felix Brissot French Landscape Oil, Felix Saturnin Brissot de Warville, born 1818 Veron, France - died 1892 Versailles, France, Sheep and Shepherd with Dog in a Atmospheric Barbizon Manner Landscape, circa 1882, oil on canvas, 25 and twenty five thirtyseconds inches wide x 36 and five sixteenths inches wide, signed lower left F. Brissot, partially obscured 3 or 4 character gallery, auction or sale inventory number on a vertical stretcher as well as faint numerical inscriptions on the top horizontal stretcher, accompanied by a gallery or collector card as Sheep In Meadow that lists Sheep In Meadow, 1882 - the source of our circa date for this painting - as amongst a list of known or exhibited titles by the artist however this is unverified and note that the frame that preciously housed this painting had a 20th century plaque titled In the Meadow, unframed. Note the signed Hermann Dudley Murphy carved Carrig - Rohane Vose number 3704 Boston frame that once held this painting is being offered separately in this sale as Lot 7 as one of two Murphy Carrig Rohane Vose frame only lots in this sale, per the direction of the consignor. Provenance is a local Florida Gulf Coast estate, name withheld, likely earlier Vose Galleries as it previously was in a Vose frame. Note that the 20th century printed frame plaque mentioned above does not accompany the painting but rather the above mentioned frame as a separate lot out of concern for damaging during plaque removal the collectible frame in which it was previously held as well as due to the the 20th century collector card that accompanies this painting titling the work differently from what is on the plaque on the frame that is separate Lot 7.
Condition
Sound estate discovery condition, no noticeable craquelure, 20th century cleaning, uncertain as to whether lined as the edges have old paper tape since varnished over, a couple of edge spots and some edge wear.
