Description
A CHINESE CHESTNUT SILK DRAGON ROBE (JI FU)
Late 19th/ Early 20th Century
Worked in satin stitch embroidery in shades of blue, green, red and pale violet and couched gold threads on the front and black panels, with eight five-clawed dragons pursuing 'flaming pearls' amidst clusters of clouds interspersed with shou (longevity) characters, lishui stripe at the hem, with black-ground cuffs. All picked out in shades of blue, yellow, red and grey against a light chestnut background.

Metallic thread coming undone in a few places. Overall very good condition. 53½ x 72 inches (136 x 183 cm)
