**First Time At Auction**

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 4th century CE. A gorgeous pottery skyphos presenting a conical base, wide body, and corseted flared rim, all sitting upon a petite, discoid base and flanked by a pair of applied, loop handles. The upper half of the redware vessel is beautifully embellished by 4 rows of stippling known as barbotine - a popular method of decoration in the ancient world that consisted of piping clay onto a surface via a horn or quill, much like one does with icing on cake in modern times. Size: 4.75" in diameter x 2.75" H (12.1 cm x 7 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
