A LOUIS XV STYLE FIVE-PIECE GILTWOOD SALON SET
Late 19th Century
A settee and four arm chars. The hand-carved pierced carved floral and foliate giltwood wreath surmounting a long lozenge shaped back with acanthus carving that encloses a rich red tightly upholstered back with petit point tapestry within an ivory cartouche. The back is stabilized by flaring arms with scroll form hands and arm pads above a serpentine rail with festoon relief carving, all raised on cabriole legs with scroll feet.
Condition: Chipping to gilding; restorations. Tapestry in fair condition and outside back upholstered in muslin. 41 x 66 ½ x 21 inches (104.1 x 168.9 x 53.3 cm)
