Lot 0045 Details

Description
Marcel Wibault (1905-1998) France Winter Landscape Oil/ Board, Signed, measures 19 X 25 inchesMarcel Wibault was a French painter best known for his loosely brushed depictions of the French Alps and alpine villages. Born in 1904 in Besançon, France, his early work often focused on the infantry troops traveling through his hometown. Sensing the onset of World War II, the artist and his wife fled to the isolation of the alpine town of Chamonix. Here, Wibault set up his home and studio in a chalet he called the Alpenrose. Using Chamonix as his home base, he went on long hiking excursion to find spots for plein-air painting. The artist died in 1998 in Chamonix, France.
