Glass and Porcelain
Liverpool Plate with the Great Seal of the United States
c. 1792, Ornate Liverpool Plate with the central transfer “Seal of the United States,” Choice Extremely Fine or better.
This 10" Scalloped rim Dinner Plate was likely manufactured during the administration of George Washington. There are several small trivial chips along the edge, and it is in excellent clean overall condition. The handsome 3” tall black central transfer display of the “Great Seal of the United States.” It has Fifteen Stars above the Heraldic Eagle, corresponding to the number of States existing between June of 1792 and June of 1796. This design is listed as “S.41” on page 170 of the major reference book “Anglo-American Ceramics” by Arman. The Scalloped edges have a raised pattern, similar to that of billowing waves. An impressive historic Liverpool Plate with the Great Seal of the United States for display.
