Roy Lichtenstein (American, 1923-1997). "Nude Reading [from the Nudes series]". Original color relief print. 1994. Signed, numbered, and dated in pencil, lower right; blind stamp (Tyler Graphics Ltd. chop), lower right; workshop number (RL94-3102) in pencil, lower left verso. Edition of 60. White 350 gram Rives BFK mould-made paper. Full margins. Very fine impression with bright, bold color. Condition: overall near fine; some minor printer ink smudges (2) verso, not visible recto; a few minor handling creases in the margins. Provenance: Private collection, Paradise Valley, Arizona. The auction record for this print is $82,831 (51,650) at Sotheby's, London, 03/30/2011. This highly important and scarce print, one of the six images and three states that compose the Nude series, was, like the others in the series, based on "love" and "girl" comic-book illustrations, not live models. These were the artist's first images of the subject. Lichtenstein is quoted in a newspaper article in November 1994 as having said that the nude form itself is "a good excuse to contrast undulating and volumetric form with rigid geometry." Printed and published by Tyler Graphics, Mount Kisco, New York. Image copyright Estate of Roy Lichtenstein. Literature/catalogue raisonne: Corlett 288; see also Cohen-Tyler (1994). Image size: 24 1/8 x 30 1/2 in. (613 x 775 mm). Sheet size: 30 5/8 x 36 1/4 in. (778 x 921 mm). [26383] {K50} <+>
