Description
Napadeniye imperialistov na Sovetskuyu Rossiyu [Imperialist Attack on Soviet Russia], a poster signed “Skif” (a pseudonym of Alexandr Apsit, 1880-1944). Published by the AgitProsvet (Propaganda and Education) Department of the Bureau of Military Comissars, Moscow, 1918, 105 x 72 cm.

The poster is shown, with attribution to Apsit, in Russky Revolyutsionny Plakat, by Vyacheslav Polonsky (GIZ, Moscow, 1925), and in Sovetsky Plakat Epokhi Grazhdanskoi Voiny, by B. Butnik-Siversky (Moskovskaya Knizhnaya Palata, Moscow, 1960).

Apsit produced over 70 early Soviet agitation posters before fleeing Moscow, fearing that the Soviet cause was lost. He settled in his native Latvia.
