81379: 2009 New York Yankees World Championship Pendant
2009 New York Yankees World Championship Pendant. The hearts of New Yorkers were broken a second time just weeks after the devastation of 9/11 when the bullet-proof Mariano Rivera shockingly surrendered the 2001 World Series to the Arizona Diamondbacks on a walk-off bloop single, bringing to a conclusion the last great dynasty of the twentieth century. After such a spectacular run of good fortune--1996, 1998, 1999, 2000--most Yankee fans were ill-prepared for the string of first-round playoff exits to follow, and a pathetic exit from the old Stadium in 2008 without any October ball whatsover. Presented is a symbol of the Bronx' return to brilliance, one in which they christened the new Stadium just like the old one--with a World Championship conclusion. The design borrows heavily from that of the rings presented to Jeter, A-Rod and the boys, featuring 1.35 carats of diamonds affixed to the fourteen karat white gold and blue stone face. Verso is stamped 'Yankee Stadium 2009 Inaugural Season World Champions, Balfour 14K." Nineteen inch chain. Total weight is twenty-six grams. These pendants were typically presented to female front office workers for the Yanks. Housed in original jewelry case and box.
