Pair of Chinese Export Kang Xi Ginger Jars

ca. 1662-1722, in the famille verte palette, the covered baluster-form jars decorated with orange peonies and orange and green ho-ho birds on a ground of green scrollwork, the covers decorated to match, the bottoms with concentric underglaze blue rings.
h. 17-1/4", dia. 8-1/2"

Provenance: Henry Stern Antiques, New Orleans, Louisiana; Estate of Julia Hamilton, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Condition
**EXAMPLE #1 Cover: Old glaze loss to the finial tip. The flange with small flake chips to the inner edge and a small firing anomaly to the outer portion. Urn: A segment of the neck (2-1/2" x 1-1/4") with old repaired breaks; from there, a single old hairline extends approximately 6-1/2" over the shoulder and down the body through the bird's lowered wing with a nearby area of small surface scuffs/losses. EXAMPLE #2 Cover: The rim with a well-integrated old professional restoration through the outer edge; the leaves with slightly thick enamels throughout. Urn: The neck with an old repaired break (approx. 2-3/4" x 1-1/8") and an adjacent flake chip (1/8" x 1/8"). The base edge with an old 1/8" x 3/8" loss. The enameled decoration of both examples in overall good condition with very scattered surface scuffs/losses. The reds of one example are in a slightly deeper tone. The cover finials are of slightly different shapes. Neither cover nor body of these ginger jars exhibit any significant fluorescence.
