052001: GIL ELVGREN OIL ON CANVAS, HAUGHTY GIRL W/GLOVE
GIL ELVGREN (AMERICAN 1914-1980), OIL ON CANVAS, HAUGHTY GIRL WITH GLOVE, 16" X 12":Not signed; antique wood frame. Pinup artist.
Very nice looking painting - a pleasing looking girl. As viewed under UV light in the unopened frame: UV clean; light but tall blackish crescent shape mark (or smudging) needs to be cleaned off from her left shoulder (on right as we view her) and going up into her hair on her left side (our right as we view it) - there is also a little smudging or mark on her right arm (on the left as we view her); 2 paint nicks in the sky in the UL; inverted 'L' shape small paint crack in sky in UL; small paint crack in LL; there is a splotch in the center far left along the edge of the painting (like from a finger that had touched the wet paint but the origin of it is unknown); part of the painted canvas has been stretched way over the right vertical stretcher (part of her shoulder is in this area) and this area is painted right to the edge (may have been reduced in size), needs a cleaning and has cracks where it is folded over the stretcher bar - see photo detail; antiqued frame; not lined or patched. Rf Painting from the Brennan estate, Grosse Pointe. It appears that this particular model was used several times by Elvgren as seen in additional paintings of his listed on Artnet, one of which is entitled 'An Orchid for Miss Sylvania'. Ejd
