Item Details
Description
Exquisite 16" Kestner, incised on back of head "E Made in Germany 9". It has brown glass sleep eyes, wide eye-cuts, painted upper and lower lashes as well as thick, heavy brows, open mouth with two upper teeth and deep dimple in chin. It is on the original fully-jointed wood and composition body with original finish, stamped in red "Excelsior Germany 1" and bearing a paper square label in middle of back torso, reading "Made for G. A. Schwarz, Philadelphia, Made in Germany". The body is in excellent condition with original finish. The doll wears what is most likely her original cotton and lace dress with ribbon inserts below waist, nice stockings and very nice side button, antique leather shoes and the original blonde curly wig. In addition, she has a nice straw bonnet with silk ribbon, although the brim does have slight damage on one side. Although not marked "143", she is of the early period exact same model and thought to have been made in the late 1890's, before they assigned this particular number to this particular face. Condition: (Excellent). Dimensions: 16" x 7" x 3 - 1/2".
