Description
Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom to Third Intermediate Period, 19th to 25th Dynasty, ca. 1292 to 664 BCE. A mold-formed faience stamp seal of ovoid form with interesting imagery incised on the stamp face. The topside features a petite handle that arches across the top with a large lotus flowers radiating off each terminal. The underside shows an ambiguous, right-facing figure - perhaps a deity or a pharaoh - who wears the Pschent crown of Upper and Lower Egypt while standing in front of a royal uraeus cobra and a sun disk. The entire composition is enveloped in lustrous blue glaze that enhances its attractive presentation. Size: 1.5" L x 0.875" W x 0.5" H (3.8 cm x 2.2 cm x 1.3 cm)

Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896

Minor nicks to lower periphery, with softening to details on handle terminals and beneath stamp face, and light encrustations within some recessed areas, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to glaze pigment throughout.
