Egyptian Glazed Faience Striding Thoth Pendant
Item Details
Description
Ancient Egypt, late Third Intermediate Period to early Late Dynastic Period, 25th to 27th Dynasty, ca. 744 to 404 BCE. A mold-formed faience pendant depicting the ibis-headed deity Thoth, god of mathematics, intelligence, and the moon. Thoth presents in a striding pose atop an integral rectangular plinth, holds both arms to the sides of his pleated skirt, and bears a rigid posture backed against a dorsal pillar; a suspension loop is drilled through the middle of the dorsal pillar.
