Description
Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Iron Age, Cypro-Archaic Phase, ca. 1st millennium BCE. An impressive pottery vessel, striking for both its attractive form with a near-spherical body, a narrow neck, a trefoil spout, and a bifurcated strap handle joining rear end of spout to shoulder, as well as its meticulously delineated decorative program in hues of burnt orange, tan, and black on beige. The exterior of the ancient vessel boasts mesmerizing concentric circles or target motifs visible on every face and crossed linear designs similar to arrows nestled between columns of target-like forms beneath the spout. Size: 8.5" Diameter x 13.3" H (21.6 cm x 33.8 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private T.G. collection, Williston, Florida, USA, acquired in 2001

Body repaired from a few large pieces with restoration and overpainting over break lines. Neck, spout, and handle restored from new material. Some expected nicks, commensurate with age. Modern indecipherable writing penciled on shoulder. Otherwise, very nice with impressive remaining pigments.
