Description
Ancient Egypt, late Third Intermediate Period to early Late Dynastic Period, 25th to 26th Dynasty, ca. 744 to 525 BCE. A mold-formed amulet depicting the head of Hathor, the goddess of music, love, dance, and motherhood, and one of the oldest Egyptian deities dating back to the Old Kingdom period (ca. 2686 to 2181 BCE). The pendant features the face of Hathor - with large eyes, a tapered jawline, and bovine ears - all framed within a lengthy wig and beneath a tiered headdress. The pendant is perforated from top to bottom for suspension. Size: 0.53" W x 0.8" H (1.3 cm x 2 cm)

Provenance: private Toronto, Ontario, Canada collection, by descent, acquired in Egypt in 1894 to 1896
