Description
Antique Remington New Model Police Revolver with Inscription. Serial no. 10901 [under barrel and under grips on frame], .36 caliber, 4 1/2-inch octagonal barrel. Barrel marked PATENTED SEPT. 14 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS ILION NEW YORK U.S.A. / NEW MODEL. Top of frame boldly engraved AMERICAN / EXPRESS CO. NO. 4. Originally blued finish with brass triggerguard and iron backstrap. According to research, it appears these were issued with Remington before American Express took the contract to Colt Firearms. According to Flayderman's, About 18,000 New Model Police revolvers were manufactured between 1865-1873. In 1850, American Express was started as an express mail business in Buffalo, New York, after some time American Express extended its reach nationwide by arranging affiliations with other express companies, most notably Wells Fargo. Condition: Very good for this model. Small traces of bluing on protected areas, the balance a smooth gray patina with some pitting, previously cleaned. Grips good with mars and scuffs, but butt area with heavy dents. Mechanically sound, bore ok. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
