Portrait of Mary Abbott Candler, the cousin of the Coca Cola Co founder in Atlanta, who grew up to be a real Southern Belle. Signed E. Sherwood Jeter 1898. Miss Jeter (1862-1930) was a well known Atlanta artist, exhibited on Whitehall St., who ultimately moved to Hartford, Conn., where she lived with her brother prior to her death. The painting frame is original and has the label of Chas. W. Thurmond Whitehall St., Atlanta. The sitters father was a first cousin to the founder of Coca Cola. The Candler family were the founders of Candler, NC.. Mary Abbott Candler McBrayer lived and worked in the family store in Anderson, S. C. The painting has never been out of the family of the portrait subject, has never been cleaned, there are 3 scratches and abrasions shown in the photos. Dimensions of the artwork ae 26" wide by 36" tall, original frame dimensions are 36' wide by 46" tall.
