"Peter Stackpole was twenty-one when he began his project of photographing the men who were building the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. He had been using a Model A Leica camera since 1929, and by 1934, when he began his work on the bridge, he felt that he had found, as he says, 'a great big subject that the small camera could handle best'." -publisher.
