Item Details
Description
An undiscovered oil on canvas by America's First Hispanic painter, F. Luis Mora, 16" long by 12" tall plus the original frame, never cleaned or touched up, mint condition, very dark, the new owner may want to clean it, or leave it looking ancient and wistful. To be included in the upcoming catalogue raisonne by Lynne Pauls Baron. Circa 1910, the artist is shown in a lush setting painting a lovely lady reclining on a sofa. There are alcoves with art objects around the room, a portfolio of artworks on the floor, the artists brushes and paints, screens, Mora's favored artist from centuries before, looking over his shoulder, Diego Velazquez. The painting contains details that are at the same time serious, exotic interior, sensual fabrics, with even a peacock painted on the screen, statutes in front of mirrors, a suit of armor, with a detailed oriental rug on the floor. This painting has been in a private New York collection for 50 + years, the aged 90 years lady has no idea where her husband acquired the work. It is being sold without a reserve.
