Poster clock Louis XV style Napoleon III period.
Item Details
Description
Poster clock in the Louis XV style from the Napoleon III period. France, second half of the 19th century.
Gilt bronze.
LEROLLE frères à Paris movement.
With stamp VINCENTI et Cie MEDAILLE D'ARGENT.
Measures: 117 x 49 x 22 cm.
Poster clock in the Louis XV style, the case of which has a work of robust scrolls and acanthus with a trellage background (on the lower half) and flowers. It has a representation of a putti, a constant motif in the decorative arts of Rococo, with graceful forms and gentle gestures, with curly hair in a naturalistic language. The dial has Roman numerals and Louis XV hands. As a whole, the watch is anchored in French rococo with asymmetrical forms inspired by nature. As for the VINCENTI et Cie MEDAILLE D'ARGENT hallmark, it is worth noting that Jean Vincenti, originally from Corsica, founded the Vincenti & Cie watch factory in Montbéliard in 1823. Due to financial difficulties a few years later, the company had to declare bankruptcy in 1828. The director of the factory, Jean "Albert" Roux, took over part of Vincenti's shares. As a result, Vincenti & Cie was able to resume production in 1829. The company managed to win a silver medal for its watches in 1834 in Paris. After Vincenti's death in 1833, Albert Roux took over the company, which went on to win a gold medal in 1855. Vincenti & Cie existed until 1923.
