Post-Revolutionary War to Civil War
Wax Seal with Handmade Oxbone Handle Sailor Made
c. 1860 Mid 19th century, Brass Wax Seal with Handmade Turned Fancy Oxbone Handle, Extremely Fine or better.
This small Wax Seal measures about .5" wide and 1.5" long including its Handmade turned Oxbone handle. Likely made by a sailor, since it was originally sourced from a Maritime museum. The Stamp has a nicely shaped "Water Well" engraved design and the word "FARE" in tiny letters above. The threads on the handle are slightly worn and the seal does not attach tightly. A very interesting intricate and unusual period item.
