206: A Pre-Columbian Inca Stone Canopa

From anicent Peru, Inca culture, ca. 1438-1533 A.D. Canopas were carved from solid hard stone, typically black with central hole in their backs, the holes were then filled with coca leaves and animal tallow. These were then thrown into the fields in an offering to the mother god (Pacchamama) to ask for a healthy breeding season and crops. 4-1/2"L x 3"T. Provenance: Ex-private Fort Knox Artifacts, Scottsdale, AZ This lot will be sold not subject to a reserve. The starting price is the price at which the item can sell.
