A BRONZE-GILT FIGURE OF A BODHISATTVA PALA STYLE NORTHEASTERN INDIA
Standing on a round lotus base over a stepped pedestal and holding a holy water vase in his left hand, wearing a dhoti and jewelry, his face with down casting eyes and gentle smile surmounted by a foliate tiara and a high chignon topped with a finial, lapis paints painted. All backed by a flaming openwork mandorla. This is a great example of a Pala-period altarpiece. The rare example is fire-gilt as opposed to the common brass alloy.
Dimension: L. 11.5 cm. W. 11.5 cm. H. 35.5 cm. Weight 2640 gram.
