Item Details
Description
WEEGEE "DOUBLE – FEATURE" 1946. 9 1/8 inch x 7 inch gelatin silver print on an 11 ¾ x 9 inch mount with a title label attached and ruled border lines. This itself is over-matted by a 20 x 16 inch mount, on the verso of which Weegee has taped an application form signed "Arthur Fellig." The entries, in pencil, have faded. WEEGEE has arranged the entry to the apartment building as though it is the entrance to a movie theater. He has stands with his photographs on the sidewalk. The left-most has his famous photograph "The Critic." "Double-Feature" refers to a standard movie presentation at the time, as well as referring to his photographs and his films (that are not as well-known as his photographs.) The bold sign with the title has humorous elements such as "PLUS TAX." Like many of his Hollywood photographs, this has elements of distortion, noted especially in the figures. The man at the right edge is doubled. This is an important object that includes many elements of Weegee's interests. Condition is Fine.
