EDWARD S. CURTIS. Ring Thunder - Brule, 1907. 7.25x5.3" image on 9x6.3" copper plate. Plate date 1908. From Volume 3, The Sioux, of The North American Indian. Plate recto engraved: Ring Thunder - Brule / From Copyright Photograph 1907 by E.S. Curtis.

At eighteen, Ring Thunder (b. 1840), accompanied a party under Knife, against the Pawnee. He himself led twenty-three war-parties, all against the same tribe. He counted coup once, was never wounded, nor did an enemy ever strike him. At thirty-three he was elected a chief.
