Description
Rare, hard to find Herend Macao Covered Double Handle Cup and Saucer with black ground. Mandarin Man Handles and Finial. Saucer 5 3/4". Cup 5 1/4"x4". Weight 14 oz. A former owner of the Herend Porcelain Manufactory, Farkashazy Fischer Jeno, designed the decorative Macao pattern at the turn of the 20th century. A many-branched tree with light and dark-green leaves spreads over the gleaming black ground. There are red, pink and white Chinese peonies blooming at the end of its supple branches, and in the tree perch resplendent birds with green, blue, and yellow plumage. Flowers bloom along the sparkling silver brook that flows beneath the tree. PROVENANCE: A Charleston Private Estate.
