Item Details
Description
Antonio Pietro Martino (American, 1902–1989) The Brook

Signed and dated 'A.P. Martino/1925' bottom right; also inscribed with title and Artist on upper stretcher verso, oil on canvas
16 1/8 x 20 in. (41 x 50.8cm)

Provenance

Private Collection, Pennsylvania.

Frame: 19 x 23 x 2 in.

The apparently unlined canvas in close to excellent original condition, with a superb impasto. We notice a faint hairline craquelure at bottom right. No sign of inpainting as seen under UV light. Some parts of the canvas are bare, so that we can see the ground: part of the artist's working method, not a sign of abrasion.
