**First Time At Auction**

Greece, Western Empire, ca. 4th century BCE. A stunning terracotta sculpture of a woman, possibly a goddess, of a minimalist form that simultaneously appeals to an Archaic aesthetic and modernist style. The flattened female sits upon a throne-like chair with both arms outstretched as the long sleeves of her floor-length robe fall to her lap. A cylindrical headdress crowns her ovoid head, which is framed by a long veil or coiffure. Size: 3.3" W x 5.6" H (8.4 cm x 14.2 cm)

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000; ex-Butterfield & Butterfield, San Francisco, California, USA
