Description
**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, China, Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A traveling archery bow made from lightweight bamboo that folds in half at the center via an iron hinge. The central grip is a pair of wood blocks covered in cotton cloth, when in use, an iron latch and rivet keep the bow extended. The string notches are made from polished cow horn that fit into slots on the bamboo tips. A folding bow may not be practical for defense but may have been for sport- shooting clay pellets or martial arts practice. Size (extended): 46.25" L x 1.5" W (117.5 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: private San Francisco, California, USA collection, acquired 1970s to 2000s
