Description
Serving set of three, antique porcelain ramekin bowl, saucer and salad or dessert plate, by Schwarzburg Rudolstadt Straus & Sohne, Germany. All three items have a Schwarzburg porcelain mark that was in use 1904-1924. Schwarzburg Art Nouveau Pattern # RSC12, Pink Rose In Black Square On Green Band.

The plate is 7.1/2" [19cm] across, the inner golden rim shows some wear; the saucer is c.4.7/8" [12.4cm]; fine condition; the ramekin bowl is c.1.1/2" [3.8cm] deep and 4" [10.2cm] across at the top, fine.

Ramekins are commonly used for preparing and serving individual portions of a variety of dishes, including creme brulee, French onion soup, molten chocolate cake, moin moin, cheese or egg dishes, poi, macaroni and cheese, lasagna, potted shrimps, ice cream, souffle, baked cocottes, crumbles, chakra pongal, or scallops, or used to serve side garnishes and condiments alongside an entree. They can be also used to serve caviar or julien.

Porzellanfabrik Rudolstadt Straus & Sohne A.G. was established in 1882 but it's roots date back to 1869 when Lazarus Straus & Sons company was founded. This glass and ceramic import and trade business was growing fast. Already in 1874 Lazarus's son, Nathan, started cooperation with R.H. Macy company creating own departments in their shops. Lazarus Straus & Sons carried out operations in several European countries: England, Austria, France and Germany. In 1930 the factory was closed.
