BIOGRAPHY:
The artist was born Helen Louise French in Malvern, Ohio on September 2, 1905. She moved to Toledo, Ohio at an early age. After graduating from Libbey High School in 1925, she worked in Toledo until 1941. In that year she settled in Glendale, California where she was director of Max Weil Pottery while studying with William F. Foster.In 1946, she married John A. De Tar and established the De Tar Studio in Los Angeles, specializing in various decorative items. During her last ten years she lived in Seal Beach, California, where she was active in the local art scene and received several prize ribbons for her works. Mrs. De Tar died in SealBeach on November 2nd 1988. Her early works are mostly landscapes; whereas she later specialized in floral still life's.
