19th C. French Brass Baroque Style Mirror w/ Sconces
Item Details
Description
Western Europe, France or United States, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. This is a beautiful baroque style brass mirror with an ornate openwork frame and sconces for candles or electrical lighting. The mirror is set in an ovoid lip surrounded by scrolling foliate and vine motifs with cornucopias near the upper edges and a head of Bacchus or Dionysus set between the lower curling flourishes. The two candle sconces are on adjustable hooked arms shaped like vine tendrils and set into a base shaped as Satyr or Dionysus heads. These sconces are removable, and the drip pans and base of the holder are drilled through to run wires for electrical lighting. An exquisite and elegant piece that is perfect for a home as is but could certainly hold decorative candles or perhaps some electric lighting. Size: 25" L x 18.5" W (63.5 cm x 47 cm)

Provenance: private Evergreen, Colorado, USA collection; ex-private Denver, Colorado, USA, collection, acquired 1960 to 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

Condition
Surface abrasions, nicks, and patina throughout. Sconces are perforated with drilled openings, likely for lighting wires. The verso of the flat brass panel backing on the mirror is slightly loose at the top but could easily be secured with adhesive. Green patina inside sconces. No markings or signature. Mirror is intact and excellent with a few minor cloudy areas.
