[Folsom State Prison Mugshot Book]. Description of Prisoners Received at California State Prison at Folsom. [N.p., 1915-1923]. Folsom State Prison's mugshot book, with three photos to each page of nearly two-thirds of the pages (from page 2084 [actually page 1184] onward, there are no photos). Each photo is a silver gelatin black and white photo and is approximately 2.75 x 2 inches. Full-face photographs only. Accompanying each photo is information about each convict (name and statistics, crime, and date of release or parole if applicable; pages without photos also have this information). All convicts are male. With nearly 1,300 photos. Oblong folio. Approximately 11 x 13.25 inches. 731 [sic] - 2561 [actually 1561] pages. Bound in contemporary screw-bound gray cloth. Spine missing, binding worn and soiled, text leaves toned and wrinkled, with some wear, soiling and some tears, first leaf is especially worn and toned. A handsome and unique item. This book has a startling look at race relations in the early 1900's; African-Americans are commonly referred to as "Nigger" or "Negro," Asians are referred to as "Jap," etc.
