Book accompanied by a clipped autograph manuscript by Joshua Reynolds, unsigned, referencing Shakespeare: * THE EUROPEAN MAGAZINE, AND LONDON REVIEW… VOL: 25 FROM JAN. TO JUNE, 1794. London: Sewell, 1794. 8vo. 488, [16] p. + 10 (of 14) leaves of plates, plus additional engraved title. Period 1/2-calf over marbled boards. Volume includes engraved portrait of Sir Joshua Reynolds. The autograph clipping references a line from Shakespeare's "Hamlet," quoting Queen Gertrude, "methinks he do[th] protest too much." 8" x 2", with mounting tape/paper to rear (see photos.) Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), English portrait painter who promoted the "Grand Style."
Condition
Hinges cracking, some loss to edges, contents rather clean overall, loss of 1/4 of page 53 (clipped), Very Good.
