American army officer (1860-1948) who was Commander of the American Expeditionary Forces in Europe during World War I and one of the most celebrated soldiers in American history. Superb vintage matte-finish 10.75 x 13.75 photo of John J. Pershing posing proudly in his military uniform, signed neatly in black ink. In very good condition, with moderately heavy silvering to the darker areas of the image, which otherwise is a splendidly heroic portrait of Pershing in his prime.
